Infinitum Electric Uses DIGI Technology for HVAC Monitoring

One of the key features of our IEs series motors, initially used in HVAC applications, is its internet of things (IoT) connectivity. Thanks to Digi XBee® cellular modems, IEs series motors provide users with rich operational data that can be used for predictive maintenance.

Infinitum Electric motors feature a patented PCB stator that replaces bulky iron cores and copper windings. This PCB stator reduces the overall size and weight of the motor, allowing power electronics from the variable frequency drive (VFD) to be integrated directly into the motor. The PCB stator also includes sensors that help to monitor various motor parameters.

The pre-certified Digi XBEE smart cellular modem allows us to easily integrate cellular connectivity into our PCB stator at a moderate bandwidth. Digi Remote Manager software provides us with the ability to centrally manage all of our IoT connectivity.

"[B]y pushing that data to the cloud, we knew we could enable a customer to collect operational data and run analytics across a portfolio of thousands of devices to predict failure or optimize maintenance protocols.”
– Shams Shaikh, Infinitum Electric Director of Product

With IoT connectivity, IEs series users can remotely monitor and get real-time feedback on critical motor data including power, speed, torque, vibration, temperature and pressure, allowing them to make data-driven decisions about their HVAC systems. This up-to-the-minute data provides users with crucial motor health monitoring, which can help with predictive maintenance based on condition monitoring set points.

The Digi team also provided valuable assistance with customized antennas that fit seamlessly into our design while minimizing risk of damage and taking security into consideration.
